Yes. Stories of Sea Country has been designed to link in with multiple elements of the Stage 3 (Year 5-6) NSW syllabus outcomes. 

As the program develops, and schools from other year levels participate, this will be updated.

No. The program is free to participate as all costs are generously covered by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development through the Marine Estate Management Strategy.

The entry form and story template is provided to participating schools. It is a crucial document for submitting stories that are publishing under this program. 

• Entry form: All details, especially story title and student names, must be completed by the teacher. 

• Story template guidelines: All necessary instructions have been included to help schools complete their story and illustrations.

• Story template: The template has been supplied to guide the layout of the story. Illustrations don't have to be included in the template as we encourage students to create their artwork on A4 paper (portrait layout). Illustrations can be in the form of drawings, photos paintings or collage.

The Stories of Sea Country program is not about recreating traditional Dreaming/Creation stories or Songlines, it is about students creating their own stories using knowledge, both cultural and ecological, that they have learned through workshops and on-Country experiences. They will only use traditional stories as a ‘scaffold’ to learn how to write stories that have meaning and last over time.

If you do incorporate Traditional stories, they should only be used with permission of the original knowledge holders.
